Spot a Fake Watch
Tips include:
Clear caseback--luxury watches don't have clear plastic backs. This is an absolute giveaway.
Micro-etched Crystal--"My counterfeit watch doesn’t even attempt to mimic this feature, but many fakes will try to match the micro-etched Rolex logo that has become standard on genuine watches made after 2002," says one blogger. "Rolex began micro-etching their coronet symbol into the crystal just below the 6 o’clock position. The mark is so small, it is often difficult to see with the naked eye, but can be identified under magnification. The detail is so precise that counterfeit models often cannot replicate the logo accurately."
Hand movement--if the hands, particularly the second hand--clicks or moves in a jerky way, it's a fake. The real thing has a smooth, fluid movement that just can't be copied.

Tips:
Materials: Once upon a time, shoddy fake handbags and other accessories were made with pleather. You knew at once looking at a product that it was counterfeit. Today, however, counterfeiters have become more deceptive, using leather in an effort to get customers to believe the product is genuine. That said, there is no matching the quality and softness of touch that leather bags have when made by luxury companies. If your bag feels stiff, if it sits up perfectly when placed on a table, there is a good chance it is not authentic. Also, remain aware of what kind of lining the bag of your choice has. Often, counterfeiters cut cost by using cheaper lining that may be a different color or material than the original altogether.
Stitching: This is one of the most crucial things to remain aware of. Sloppy stiches are the mark of a fake--luxury brands pride themselves on using artisans and/or techniques that create bags with perfect stitching. In fact, there is a high degree of quality testing that occurs at luxury factories, and if a bag is off by a mere stitch--it's axed. If a prospective purchase seems sewed poorly, or with thread that isn't even the proper color, it's surely a fake.
Origin: Are you buying it at a market stall? Unless it's a possible vintage item, it's a fake. Purchase your handbags through reputable sources--the brick and mortar store or authorized online retailers like net-a-porter.com.

Clothing
Running in sneakers without foot protection? Wearing shirts dyed with illegal or flammable chemicals? That’s no one’s idea of chic. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking knockoffs are fashionable--they’re not, and neither are the corners counterfeiters cut to give consumers a cheap thrill.

Perfume
Good, non-toxic perfume is composed of hundreds, sometimes thousands of ingredients. Did you know it takes 60,000 roses to distill one ounce of perfume oil? That means each drop is 60 roses. Understanding the intricacies of producing luxury goods, and procuring their materials, makes it easy to see how very different knockoffs are from the real thing.
And they’re not just different. Counterfeit perfume, for instance, can use anything from urine to germy pond water as a stabilizer.
"Because fragrances are applied to the skin — and some counterfeits have been shown to include additives such as urine and antifreeze — fakes can pose a significant public safety issue, says Bradley Schnur, president and chief operating officer of SES and a former assistant district attorney in Brooklyn. "It's a health issue."
